 So annoyed at myself! Have gone and got a bank charge today cos ddnt check my account properly. £35 down the drain

Also have update spreadsheet with new wages as had to cut down hours at work and my debt free date is not for another year now and that is only if I continue killing myself working til midnight 4 nights a week then getting up at 5am to do my cleaning job.

I just want to get out of this debt...(dont we all!)

    Hi

It might be worth phoning up your bank and explaining the situation. Is your account now in credit? Sometimes banks refund you if you phone up and put your account back into credit quickly.

Re: hours at work, i honestly dont think its worth making yourself ill over. Yes we all want to be debt free, but whats the point in being ill and not having a life during it? It will make it feel worse and far longer.

It's worth a go I suppose but because I succesfully reclaimed previosu charges from them before the hold was put on cases I think they have some sort of note on my account saying "under no circumstances refund" as I've had another charge since then that was really unfair but they refused to refund...worth a try though - here goes!!!

I agree with the previous poster, celebrate how far you've come and give your bank a call and see if they will refund. Again they always have for me. You do need to find ways to enjoy life now. Without wanting to be morbid, no-one knows how long they have so find a way of making your life living every day. Yes it is important to pay off debt but a year is liveable with.... and it is better than working yourself to death. Is there any way that you can get better paid work and therefore work less hours? I notice you are doing well on quidco:T - at least that's something....

Well as I thought they said no because I've had previous refunds she said "they couldnt possibly refund anymore". I suppose its another to add to my claim for when the hold is eventually lifted (hopefully!)

re: work it's difficult. I have 2 young children and dont like to leave them in childcare hence why I work early mornings and evenings but I think something has to give.
  • oh hun feeling for you,big hugs! its hard trying to fit work round children, i too used to work late hours and early mornings, thankfully i have a new job at a school so its child friendly hours! i ended up getting really run down doing those late nights/ early morings and it wasnt til my doctor signed me off as i kept getting ill (flu etc) i realised i was making myself ill, and nothing is worth losing your health over! could you not look for more friendly hours or better pay so less hours?hard i know but worth a shot?
as to the charges could you not open a new bank account else where, if you feel they treat you differently because of your charges case?

Thanks everyone. I will keep looking for a better job. Trouble is most are 9-5 and cos my kids are preschool I dont want to work that. I've been really happy with my bank up until now as they recently upgraded me from a cardcash to a normal current account out of the blue so I have a proper visa card and can do online grocery shopping etc now. To be honest if I tried to go elsewhere I suspect I would only get a basic account so prob best sticking with them but being more careful in future (I have been so good for the last year and avoided any charges, its my own stupid fault, the only person I'm annoyed with is myself cos that £35 charge is probably 4 mornings worth of getting up at 5 to clean toilets!!)

Right I've had a brew and feeling a bit better now. After all been on DFW for about a year now and so this is one bad day out of 365 good ones. Decided I'll find something to sell on ebay to cover the cost of the charge. Probably my dolls house that I've been saying I'll do up for a year now and never have and lets face it with 2 preschoolers when am I going to??!!!

Glad to see that you're feeling better. Could you try things like AQA etc that would allow you to spend some time working at home?

There's nothing more annoying than when it's your fault is there? I've been a lemon so many times it's embarrassing:mad:

Well done on the down to earth attitude though I really admire that. No point in tying yourself up in knots. And hopefully you can get it back later and it'll be savings rather than repayments

    Hiya

I dont think I'm up to AQA as I have absolutely no general knowledge!!! I'm not a particularly stupid person but when I go to pub quizzes and things ppl cant believe the things I dont know!! lol

I'm doing quite well with daily clicks and loopholes through quidco etc so I may be able to give up my cleaning job at least but whenever I think I'm going to hand my notice in a little voice in my head says "just do one more month"!!!
