Mortgage arrears - letter from Nationwide Counselling Investigations

Hi, we've got arrears with our mortgage and will be going down the voluntary repossession route.
Today we've received a hand delivered letter form Nationwide Counselling Investigations saying:
'We have been instructed by your above lender to meet with you in your home to discuss the arrears on your mortgage. Unfortunately
I was unable to meet you today. I have made an appointment for you as follows, and wouldask that you are at home at that time. Tuesday 2nd September 7.15pm.
Has anyone ever had dealings with them? Just wondering what to expect and what I should tell them.
Any advice info would be appreciated thanks!

My understanding is that they have no right to visit you unless you want to see them and that it is for you to decide when is convenient. If you are going VR, is there any point in meeting? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

As it stands you should not entertain the idea. The first thing is to get in touch and ask them what the specific purpose of the intended meting is.
If they are genuinely trying to help you they can do it in writing and you have no obligation to let anybody in to your home. (Unless the police want a word with you about your drugs stash of course).
Just be a bit careful about the voluntary repossession route, which makes you 'intentionally homeless'. I'm sure you've got it covered but theres a big difference in the obligation for the state between repossession and voluntary repossession.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hello, Thanks for the replies - very helpfull!
We've been in touch with citizens advice. Basically we'll let the mortgage company go ahead with any court action repossession, and we'll give them the keys as soon as we've got deposit for rented accommodation. We're not going to sign anything - so I think officially it'll be a repossession instead of voluntary.
I thought it was a bit iffy getting this hand delivered letter - we did get a letter from the mortgage company to advise this was the next step.
Will keep you posted

If its a repossession they will not want the keys, so no need to send them in. On repossession day they will drill the locks and change to new ones - standard practice.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

nationwide send people round to your home even when paying them in a dmp, if they cannot extract more money from you by subtle bullying and insincere 'understnding' deliverred in a with a servile attitude, you will then be contacted by Drydens who will have you in Court before you can blink.
They go for the jugular, promising you a charging order in thier first letter.
(I have become quite fond of the guy who admits he wants the bubbly for the shareholder, at least he's honest).0 -
Thanks Aggie.
Do you think this is an indication that the mortgage company are close to court action now? So far I've missed 3 payments. Is it worth trying to put them off, or do you reckon I should just bite the bullet and have the meeting with them?
Thanks again for the help!0 -
Hiya, Just wondering if anyone had any further info/ideas about this.
Thanks0 -
Hi I have just recieved the same letter. Its slightly different for me as I have now moved out./ To be honest I just want rid of the old place as now happy in rented. I hear what was said about let the repocession take its course - the issue I have is there will be a shortfall and I need to know that before I can complete the set up of an IVA. So its in my interest to get the house repocessed asap and then sold on so I know ewhat the shortfall will be. I was hoping to work with the mortgage lender (the Halifax) to get this handed over asap - is that not a good idea? Also first Plus have a secure loan on it so Im waiting for that grief tho not sure what they can do as not main lender.
Whats the advice guys - work with them to get the house handed over or just let it run its course.... Im 3 months in arrears now.

NCI came to my flat last week. Leeds Building society told them I was in £667 in arrears (I was in fact only £117 in arrears as leeds had lost a payment). The chap from NCI turned up at 8.15am unannounced and woke me up. He was very understanding though, I don't think he believed my story that I had paid £550. He said that he would investigate and I would be able to pay any arrears over a six month period. In all, a very upsetting experience but the fella himself was quite good. And Leeds have now found the £550 that went missing.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0
