in 2003 i used my debit card to buy a sandwich in a shop and ended up exceeding my balance , i had specifically asked my bank (abbey ) at the time of opening my account i did not want an overdraft facility , but i ended up in the red , at the time this was happening i had been made homeless and had lost my job , i was not recieving any income and worrying about my bank balance was the last of my worries ...
2008 im now recieving letters from baliffs asking for payments in excess of £350 , i dont know where to begin contesting this payment , help me someone?!?!?!

Phone them. When I went over with abbey i rang them, explained that i didn't realise I was overdrawen, that I couldn't afford the fees (for one £15 transaction I owed them about £300 because i was being charged on charges).
They agreed to wave the fees that once if i promised not to do it again. I cried on the phone (genuine) that may have helped.saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.
We're 29% of the way there...0
