The Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition has now been superceded by Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition, it is still free and can be downloaded from:

Been looking on the MS web site for this inof but can't seem to find it.
What's the limitations of the free version? Been learning it at home but I'm wanting to start using it for a few projects in work, my boss asked how much will it cost... and I can't find the answer. Can I legaly use Visual Studio at work?0 -

Just a side note, if you're at University and cannot afford software then suggest to your CS department to join Microsofts Academic Alliance. (MSDNAA).
My university is part of it, we get alot of free software, VS2003, 2005, 2005beta, 5 versions of XP, Server 2000, server 2004, one note, NT, NT 4.0, Windows 98se, 98, SQL server, etc, etc, etc.
Tens of thousands of pounds worth really.
Mind you, it does mean selling your soul to MS(
Mind you that NT etc are not supported anymore! Also any software on the MSDNAA is not free, the University has to pay for a license, which means that use is limited to academic computers. There are still legal issues which the University has to adhere to. The likes of FAST can check what is happening to the software. The said software has been made with serial numbers built in, or that a serial number can be used with software on multiple systems. An example is Windows XP.
Microsoft are using Visual Studio 2008 Express Editions as a way to get people to buy other software add-ons and pay for the professional version for the serious developer.0
