Hi all
We have just had an ordeal with Barclays that I thought you should all be aware of. In July we requested our reserve to be increased, after spending over an hour on the phone we were told no problem. I had told them that we wanted to go to a property auction as there was a few we where interested in, I was told go to the auction with confidence and bid for what we wanted obviously upto the reserve amount which they said was going to be increase to 560K. The properties at this auction went for silly money so we didn't but anything and we had travelled upto Scotland to view there and was very interested in one property. A few weeks had passed and we hadn't heard from Barclays so I contacted them only to be told that we couldn't have the increase after all. The person I dealt with at the time rang me when he came back from holiday and said "no the rule they have used doesn't apply to us and there should be no problem" and he said it was his fault because he hadn't submitted the original application at the time. I again spent time on the phone and this time he submitted the application. BUT we still didn't get it and to top it off they still took the £150 charge!! We would have been in a right fix if we had bought at auction and put an offer in in Scotland which is legally binding we could have lose thousands in deposits.

And guess what. It would have been a non advised sale and you would have no comeback on the bank if you had gone ahead with the Auction purchase.I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0

Is it worth putting in an officail complaint?0 -
Is it worth putting in an official complaint? I had a call a few hours later from our business manager who kept bringing up the subjest of complaining and ended in saying that if no complaint is received then the file and subjest is shelved.0

I don't think it would get you anywhere as the decision wouldn't be over-ruled.
If you do decide to pursue it, quote the FSA's buzz phrase of 'Treating Customers Fairly'. They would only say they didn't give you any written confirmation though.I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0 -
Thanks for that
I should have had written confirmation in my hand now! the orginal person tried to fax it to me twice but the information didn't come through only a telephone number he had written down on the same paper, but thats sod's law!!0
