Bad ebay week

Hey, been followign all the advice on these threads but this week ive made like two pound on ebay:eek: so feeling very discouraged!

has this happened to anyone else? my first few weeks went great and i made a few hundred which helped pay all the credit cards last month!

now i dont know if i should put all my other stuff on or just call it a day and put them back in the loft! im so desperate to clear my debts and this is the only real option i have for making extra cash at the mo!

any advice or experience welcome, from a debt free seeker

  • Don't be too discouraged . Things are quiet just now because people are tied up getting the kids back to school and some are still on hols. Focus on those debts and give yourself a week or so and try again.

I earn my living on ebay, so can probably offer a little advice.

Never look at a day/week/month of sales in isolation. Even my average turnover of £5k per month goes up & down like a yo-yo. If I looked only at last Tuesday, I'd be looking for employment again, but Wednesday's turnover, spread over 12 months, would mean I'm in VAT-registration territory (over £67k in any 12 month period). Turnover of £7k in June is offset by this month's low-ish £3500.

August is a notoriously trecherous month to base any thoughts upon. It's the holidays, the sun's out (ok, that's stretching the point somewhat) and who wants to be buying on ebay when there's the kids to keep entertained?

Keep selling your stuff, but take a look at BINs instead of auctions, or in addition to them. There's a lot of people that like the thrill of the chase (Auctions) but there's also plenty who need the item you're selling by the end of the week, and are prepared to pay to ensure they get it (Buy It Nows).

    Oh, and good luck. :cheesy:
Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.

. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.

For tips and things why not try the ebay and other auctions board on here (see link in my signature).

As Baffcat says August is notoriously difficult , although some of my items are positively flying and one item in particular I am even thinking must be wrong as I made a lot more than I thought (that was a personal set of items rather than new business items).

If you have books and CDs why not give Amazon a try as well, again there is a thread on the ebay board.

lastly, do keep up to dat eon all the changes in the fee structure and policies, if your Stars start to get poor or you get any warnings for breaches of policy that can really affect your visibility and sales, so go and take a look at that. Also fine check your items prices and post and packing..check them against successful complete dlistings. if completed listings show you are trying to sell items that no one has sold successfully before then charity shop them.
