Er....I've never heard of a pie-maker! I'm imagining a pie-shaped sandwich toaster type thing.

that's about what it is! when it is closed you might mistake it for a toastie maker but when you open it you see 2 deep areas on the bottom for pies and 2 shallow areas in the top half!
you'll have a bit of a search finding one as i don't think they make them anymore. i did several google searches and used pricerunner and kelkoo etc and couldnt' find any. i found 2 on ebay once but they went for ridiculous prices for used items and they are heavy to ship
i just got lucky at a boot sale. you could try the small ads, place a wanted ad and keep your eyes posted for someone offering one for sale
i know of a few people that have one and they all love thiersfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
Steak and kidney or what about game as I think that's reasonably priced and in season at the moment. I would think you could do a white sauce [read condensed soup] with mixed vegetables nutmeg and grated smoked cheddar for a veggie pie.

When I was a child my mother made some really brilliamt pies - only thing was they were never the same twice! She basicallly used a base of any leftover meat chopped small added to mashed potato (she always deliberately cooked more than was needed for sunday dinner) and anything else meat or veg wise that was around. When she was totally skint - (often) - she would go to the local shop and ask if they had any trimmings from the meat slicer, somtimes these would be given to her free - other times she would be charged a small amount. She then mixed these with left over mashed potato and boiled onion and used the mixture to fill pies or pasties. Morrisons sell their meat scraps fairly cheaply (though not cheap enough in my opinion for a left over they would otherwise throw out).
Another type of pie she made was bacon and egg. Again she used bacon offcuts, still a good buy. I use the thicker pieces in pasta, pies etc and any rasher type pieces for bacon and egg or sarnies. Sometimes she substituted the bason for chopped pork, this worked really well. She also made quiches with the same fillings.0 -
I always make pies with diced chicken (browned off), campbells condensed chicken soup, diced potatoes and peas - its my hubby's favourite meal and it's so easy- yum ! (and I don't have a pie maker - wish I did though !)Currently on a life sort-out !! ...reducing bills, decluttering and getting into fitness - busy bee0

Corned beef, mashed potato and onion - mmmmmm! It's really tasty and one of my favourites.
I've never seen corned beef pie/pasties for sale anywhere other than here, so I assume it must be a North East UK specialityHere I go again on my own....0
