Wedding car hire

Hi all
We're thinking of ways to make some extra money and wondered about hiring out our car for weddings. We have a cream coloured classic mini which is in fab condition and a really lovely car, so we wondered whether there might be any money to be made in hiring her out. What do you reckon? Has anyone done this / got any experience in it? How much can you charge? How would you go about advertising it? Any help or advice would be great!
Thanks very much

Hi..
When you say hiring your car out, I presume you mean driving it yourself with the bride and groom on board? If you do this then you would need to contact your local council as this would be classed as 'Hire and reward', private hire in laymens terms. You will have to get the car licensed with them, which also includes getting public liability insurance. You may have to get a Private hire drivers license too, but you will have to check this one out.
As for what to charge my advice would be to ring around for prices in your local area, then work out your expenses and pitch yourself somewhere in between the cheapest and the most expensive. If you find that hiring the mini is unique to your area then you will probably have a niche market, thus being able to charge a premium price.

To be honest I can't see many brides going for turning up at the church in a mini.
Even if you widen the hire service to include other things like "girls nights out" or "school proms" you are not going to get much business. These tend to be "Let's all go together" events where a group want to travel in the same vehicle. You may get couple who want to turn up in something different, but you won't get a group of women booking you.
Have you thought of renting it out as a "self drive" ? There may be few people who want to be taken somewhere in a mini, but there may be more people who would like to drive one for a day.
People wanting to relive their youth, and people thinking of buying one, or a small car may like to try one for a day before buying.
I don't think it's a bad idea, but you should be looking to hire it out to anyone who might want it, not just people getting married.
Just think of all the men who keep telling their wives about the Mini they had in the 60's/70's. Then for their 50th birthday she hires him a Mini for the day.
Your idea is good, but you must expand it. Think "Italian Job".0 -
