Any tips for removing mildew mould from white curtains?

We are moving on from our current tenancy and the bottom of the bedroom curtains have fairly obvious mildew markings on them. I've put them through the washing machine but they are still visible has anybody got any proven tips to get rid of them.

Also any tips for mildew removal on grout and the sealant around the shower other than a good scrub with bleach :D

thanks in advance

For the curtains- if they are not a delicate fabric, since they are white I would shallow fill the bath with cold water and add about a cup of bleach. Leave them to soak overnight. For my shower screen, grout etc I just use a toothbrush or nail brush dipped in bleach- give a good scrub and leave on for a couple of hours- don't know any other effective way sorry.

How much vinegar and soda did you put in the machine and is it alright to mix washing powder and soda? don't want to do any damage to the machine or curtains.

I use mixed washing powder and baking soda for almost all of my washes and haven't had any problems. I guess I'd use about a cupful total (half and half) and a good splash of the vinegar...the vinegar is to prevent it recurring though so if you're moving on maybe less of an issue...

As i was opening the boys curtains this morning, I noticed black spots on the bottom. we do suffer from condensation a lot especially in the winter. i am presuming this is because of that. This year we are going to put up the special cling film on the windows. Is there any way I can get rids of these spots?

    Hi Lucielle,

There was a recent thread on removing mould from curtains that may help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.
