I knew that they got good money, but a lot of the chief executives seem to be getting their annual pay twice over- the second time being the bonus! I'm surprised the shareholders aren't more critical given the lack of profit at the moment

Its a business banks arn't there for people, they are there for profit. It might be maddening but its no different to any other company.

I think that's what they are trying to put across. That it should be the shareholders and profits that determine whether they get a bonus not the government or the regulators.
The head of the FSA is an old banker?? Who's side are they on???

I agree. I think performance related pay would probably be a better system. Chief executives seem to get a lot of money whatever company they work for, but it seems like a strange business practice to reward them when the company is doing poorly...
