I worked as an enumerator last Census, and found it quite good fun, for a fixed period. Not bad money too. I have had a letter asking me if I want to work the rehearsal and the next census in 2011 but haver just googled for you and you can apply online. Worth considering as you work when it suits you, within the specified period and area.
Hey sorry wrong link but will keep you updated as to how to apply in UK if I cant find the RIGHT link!!
The link is here but I guess they are seeing how many of us from last time say yes before they advertise for others. Might be worth keeping an eye on though?

Louise,
Thanks for the plug. You're right that we are checking how many of the 2001 field force are interested in working for us again. It looks like it's going to be a big help to us in recruiting all the staff we need.
We maintain a database of everyone interested in census field work so if anyone (not just those who worked on the 2001 Census) wants to register an interest they can email the address below.
This link has the latest information on the 2009 Census Rehearsal and 2011 Census.

I was an enumerator in 2001, it was an interesting job which fitted in well with my Uni course at the time.
Would recommend it to anyone.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
What does the work involve? Can you work from home or do you have to be out and about?
Thanks for info0 -
I did this in 2001. It involved walking from property to property dellivering the forms, and then returning a couple of weeks later to collect outstanding ones or ask people questions that they hadn't answered on their form. I went for an evenings training ( I think this was paid). I really enjoyed it as I do local history research for the exact same (rural) area and I walked the same route as previous Enumerators (pre 1901) and it helped me work out where old houses were, as sometimes Enumerators cut across fields (unknown to me) and did houses in the wrong order and it hadn't made sense to me. Sorry for waffling!
It was a really interesting job.Smoke free since 16th December 20120
