Quick help please on a dessert I just made

I have just done the middle for the Banoffee pie.

I followed the instructions on the Tin =- the condensed milk tin.

It said to melt the butter with the brown sugar - I used demerera.

I did this then poured in the condensed milk and brought to the boil, and spooned it all out onto the biscuit base.

It is REALLY dark brown... anyways... I just googled it and none of the ones in the pics look that dark... what have I done?

its the sugar. demerera has more molasses in it than brown sugar, hence the colour. Dont worry, just enjoy!

Yep - you used sugar with a high molasses = brown content. When you next go to the shops you'll see there is a BIG range of 'brown' sugars!

It'll be delicious - but I could come and test it for you;)

I went through 2 tins of Condensed milk too, as I burnt the first lot!

It tastes very much like caramel what I have made... oh well, the kids will love it !

    Thanks
