not on my credit file

Hi,

Im a bit confused. In 1999 i got a morgan stanley credit card which I maxed out to £2200. since then i ignored the debt which cabbot financial was chasing me for ( which I know was silly) and in the last few monthes a company called fire called me regarding this. I have been paying it off for a while now. its down to £1150. Ive checked my credit report from equifax and experian but can not find any record of owing the money. Is it because its more than six years ago and should I continue to pay (note. over a thousand pound has been charges). any advice would be appreciated.
