A good idea is to get hold of some wholesalers catalogues, scan one of the pictures of an item in and put it on ebay for sale. If it sells THEN go to the wholesaler and buy a few in. Its the best way to get an idea if anything will sell or not. I think it would work best if you put a dozen or so auctions on to finish at the same time, then if you have managed, for example out of 30 auctions, to sell 10 then you can pop down to the wholesaler, buy 10, or more if you think they will sell, and then send the 10 to the buyers then start some more auctions :)

This is a very dangerous idea, and I don't recommend it.

eBay really doesn't like this approach, as it is very risky. When someone wins an auction they expect that the item is sent in a timely manner, and that the seller is legit. What happens if you don't like the quality of the product when you go to the wholesalers? What if you don't like the prices? What if the dilvery time is slow/late?

This amounts to a lot of problems, and really isn't worth it. When you go to a shop, would you pay £20 for the manager to say "Okay I'm going to take your money, pop down to my dealer, and then see if the product you've paid for is available."

I know when we looked into it all I did find some really cheap suppliers for the products we were after. But then when I spoke with the Customs people to get some idea of import duties, it make it totally uneconomical for us.

Duties are heavy, but it also depends what you are importing and from what country because the tax will also vary according to the country and if the UK wants to try and promote business with that country.

I would strongly suggest you use ebay for a while and see how it actually works and what their rules and regulations are. Then you'll see why this is a very bad idea.
