haggling with large furniture outlets

i have been looking to buy a sofa over the bank holiday weekend and have tried in vein to get large furniture outlets to reduce prices by haggling - is there a technique that can be used that would be more successful or are big stores such as CLS DFS and land of leather unwilling to move on price. any help would be greatly appreiciated
