kitchen aid attachments - any good?

Hi everyone. Courtesy of my (lovely) mum, I am getting a KitchenAid Mixer. She would like to buy me the Kitchenaid Attachment Pack - Grinder, Fruit & Veg Strainer, Veg Slicer & Shredder. The only reviews I have seen of these have been on Amazon and weren't too great. I wondered, does anyone have/use any of these attachments and if so, what do you think of them?
Hope you can help.
Thanks :-)

I resisted for a while but then had a moment of weakness. I was considering a manual pasta maker and research suggested it had to be an imperia which are about £30. A bit more research suggested that it's a bit of a faff on your own - you really need two hands to handle the pasta which is difficult if one of those hands is operating the machine.
Having used the kitchenaid attachment, I can see that. It's not a five minute job (well, not pasta for six of us) but I quite enjoy it and it's rewarding to see a bowl of flour and half a dozen eggs transformed. Also, I've always regarded pasta as nutritionally bereft stodge, which homemade isn't.0 -
I was looking at the ice cream attachment the other day. Does anyone have any feed back on it?0

If your Mum is buying you a KA then she might be interested in using Amazon as they are currently giving a free ice cream attachment with Aritsan stand mixers. I hope this helps. And me jealous - yeah too right!!Toxic & Tired - Starting 2010 afresh :beer:0 -
Thanks for the comments, folks - I really appreciate the help :-)
You've got me thinking about the pasta maker now, Magentasue! As I said before, the other attachments sound good but the reviews weren't great (and to be honest, I can probably do the same in the food processor) - but a pasta maker....hmmmm
gsysezz - thanks for the tip. I did know about the free ice cream attachment - a lot of places are offering that deal at the moment (till end Sept, I think) and I would love to get it from Amazon as I've found them reliable but they don't have the pink kitchenaid and that's the one I was thinking of getting (mind you, the white is quite nice too - if it's good enough for Nigella...). I haven't heard any feedback about the ice cream attachment first hand, but I did read on a blog somewhere that someone had bought one and made 5 loads of different ice creams/sorbet in 3 days and loved them all! Sounds good, huh?
