Where's the best deal for a fridge/freezer & should I haggle?

I noticed a post where someone was asking where they could get a good deal on a sofa, and whether they should haggle.

After the repairman broke our fridge/freezer we are being allowed the price of a new one, but I want to make sure I get the best deal as I will have to pay to have mine taken away and also delivery on the new one. Is it worth trying to haggle in somewhere like Curry's or Dixons if I say I can pay by cash, or doesn't it work on items such as these?

Many thanks in advance,

Carrie

Currys usually have one particular brand at a time on a half price deal. I would be careful to think about what you want from your fridge before rushing to buy one though. For example my mum bought the Currys half-price deal a couple of months before me and regretted it because her freezer is too small for her neeeds. I bought one later and it isn't quite ideal because the freezer (although well-sized) has awkward wire baskets and I'd rather more solid ones.

TBH, I have vowed not to rush into re-purchasing anything when it breaks down, as I have a house full of bargains that I didn't think through... my dishwasher is too small, my hoover isn't powerful enough and is heavy for my 2 flights stairs....
  • Check online for prices and look for discount codes to use online in places such as currys and comet. Do go and see the product in the shop though-an online pic isnt good enough as the last poster says-its easy to make mistakes. I got my last fridge(Beko) in Iceland and I have to say that its better than the hotpoint I had previously. Check copartment sizes/ratio to frige/dropdown flaps/temp control-whether its 2 controls-one for fridge and one for freezer or one for the lot. Do you want fridge at top or bottom? Check cubic capacity to what you have now-it all matters. Try a haggle-nowt to lose after all!

I bought a cooker once from currys. Found it online and found some discount codes inlcuding %off and free delivery. Printed off the order and took it to the store where they did price match it but quite relucantly...
  • We got our fridge freezer from Boots online. They were cheaper than Comet and Currys, plus I got lots of points on my advantage card. The customer service was really good too. The only bad thing was the delivery charge £19.99, but it still worked out a better deal with them.
  • Hi, am just waiting on a fridgefreezer, that after a week of thorough research have ordered online and saved £60 and no delivery costs. First i checked the which website and searched which makes have constant problems, so I knew which ones to avoid, then found three models I liked the look of by going to Comet and Currys, then read reviews on them online using reevoo, ciao etc. Once I had decided which one, using a couple of comparison sites and search engines found the best price, checked if they did any cashback via any of the popular sites....and ordered.....a lovely Bosch..... ten years ago when I first bought my no name fridgefreezer I negotiated at Comet and got £100 pounds off and free delivery.....face to face can be favourable too ;)

It's great that you managed to get a good deal. I have been looking at Comet, Dixons etc. and the price varies considerably. I haven't heard of reevoo but will check that out now. :)
