I think I am finally gonna take the step of entering into a DMP. What are peoples opinions on who is the best to go with? Payplan or CCCS?
Also, what are tha major implications of entering into an DMP?

I have no experience of Payplan but I can unreservedly recommend the CCCS - they have been excellent for us.
As for the implications, it depends on your circumstances. Generally I think that most creditors will welcome it as it shows you are trying to get things sorted out. Also, the CCCS advice on setting realistic budgets for your different areas of expenditure was really helpful. The real eye-opener for us was the concept of putting living expenses *before* payments to secondary creditors (ie unsecured loans, credit cards etc). It sounds quite naive now, but it really hadn't occured to us that this was possible, and with hindsight a good deal of our debt now was built up from having to pay all the credit cards and loans each month out of the wages, then having to live off the credit cards again, which is insane.
The CCCS will also give support and advice and will not judge you. Their approach certainly helped me to adopt a more responsible attitude to dealing with my finances. I really can't sing their praises enough!!0 -
I called CCCS yesterday for the first time. It was really nice not to be judged, but to have some practical advice. I have no experience of Payplan either, but so far CCCS seems to be excellent. Unfortunately I couldn't get a session to sort out a DMP until the end of the month. But they did give me a few things to do beforehand.
Good luck. It feels like it's better to actually do something about my debt than ignore it. I hope we'll both end up debt free in due course!0 -
Both Payplan and CCCS operate in the same way and you should find some really good feedback within these forums for both organisations.
The only difference in DMP's is that Payplan offer online payment tracking now (it's still free) so you can see when payments have been sent out to your creditors.
CCCS usually have a waiting time of around 2-3 weeks until they can arrange an appointment with an advisor but I think Payplan are normally a bit quicker (around a week?) - thats what some people have mentioned in the past.

Entering onto a DMP from today also, lets hope its a safe journey! I am relieved to see that I am not alone. Well, lets face it, it can only get better, but we are dealing with a problem and we should be proud of that. I don't mean to sound like like I am self inspirational, I probably wouldn't have taken the plunge without the support and encouragement from this excellent site and all the valuable, honest postings.

As mattp said Payplan seem to have a shorter waiting list but I don't think that means they aren't as good as the CCCS. I've had no dealings with either to be honest but I would say the majority of people on here are probably with the CCCS.Also, what are tha major implications of entering into an DMP
Again I'm not an expert here so anyone with more knowledge please correct me.
You will find it very difficult to obtain credit for the next six years and all your creditors will put a default on your credit file which remains there for those six years. After that they can be removed and she should be OK. Not 100% on that though!0 -
I am in a DMP with CCCS and they are great plus they are setting up an online system where you can see your payments and balance (going down hopefully)
re the implications you wouldn't be able to get credit anyway you owe more than you earn even the greedy banks and cc companies won't give you credit plus would you really want it0 -
IMO, the CCCS are excellent and do an amazing job. I've had no experience with the other free debt help agencies so can't comment on them.Mortgage-free wannabe!0
