Costing Meals...

Hi
Well, I have been reading through weezls threads, not finished yet but will get there eventually!!
I've realised that it may help my GB if I start costing out the meals I make, then I can pick and choose for the coming week a mixture which includes mainly the cheaper ones....
I want to do this mainly for dinners in the evening, but will also try and do it for lunches and breakfast too, although I am going to take it one step at a time and start with Dinners for the first month.
I have had a little practise with our lunch today, can someone check I have done this right please.
We had pitta with cheese salad.
1xpack of 6 pitta bread - pack price 35p - we used them all, 2ea for me and dh 1ea for the kids.
Third of a cucumber - pack price 68p - so I get that to 23p
2 toms - pack price 1.08 - there were 12 in it, so 18p
125g cheese - pack price £2.00 - we used a quarter 50p
lettuce - pack price 47p I think I used a third 16p
****total cost£1.42****
I didn't cost for the blob of salad cream me and dh had on ours or the marge, I'm not sure how I would have done this as it was so little used really.
The boys also had a follow up treat of, handful of raisins, 1 tangerine each, 2 x tuc biccies, and 3 choc fingers.....Should I be costing for all of his as well to get a true picture??
Any advice welcome

I was thinking I should do this. One of my cheapy meals was eggs, beans and toast. Now that ds is eating 2 eggs as is dh and they are free range and costing about 25p each, it would seem that a cheaper meat (e.g liver or kidney may be a better bet.
I think I will start off with my regular things and see how I go."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Purpleivy - I wish dh would eat cheapy meals like that. I would be happy with egg and chips, but he hates anything like that, it has to be a 'proper' meal...So I find cutting down on food bills quite hard.
A while ago I was doing brilliantly, I used to make up my big slow cooker full of a stew or something similar and split it into 4 meals. I have no idea how much each cost though which I am a bit annoyed about as it would be great to look at that to get me back into the swing of OS...
