6 year debt rule

Some seven years ago my credit card was inadvertently charged about £500 for a day’s course that did not take place. Trying to sort it out took ages with phone calls not returned and letters not answered. The firm could not be contacted and the credit card company said they could not do anything about it as they had sold the “debt” on to debt collectors who do not take any notice of my letters of explanation.
I am not bothered about my credit agency report as I have never owed a penny to anyone and do not take out loans and the like and was told that after six years the “debt” would fall off the credit agency record so I decided to leave it to do that.
All the experts I’ve spoken to have told me the “debt” must be extinguished after 6 years.
But, it is still on the credit agency reports and it transpires that every time the debt collectors sell the “debt” on to other debt collectors the 6 years starts again on the credit agency record.
Has anyone knowledge of this please?

The six years is counted from your acknowledgement of the debt. You have never acknowledged the debt - in fact you have disputed the debt.
They haven't proved that you owe the money, which I believe is the first step in enforcing a debt
They're out of time I'm fairly sure.0 -
Thanks OliveOyl but how do I get it removed from the Credit Agency reports?
I've telephoned two of them and they say I cannot get it removed only the "originator" can remove it and I must contact "them".0
