Pine nut extract

I am not sure if this is right forum for this but, inspired by the kefir thread, I wonder if anyone knows where I could buy some pine nut extract.
A friend told me they had heard a radio programme extolling the virtues of this extract for lowering cholesterol. I buy Benecol, but it is a bit pricey, and now my daughter needs to take it too at the moment, I wondered if this extract would be more economical.
I have looked it up on the net, and it seems to be very good, it has other properties too which would be beneficial (to me at any rate)
Apparently this extract is tasteless, and can be sprinkled onto food.
If anyone knows where I could find some of this stuff I would be grateful if they would let me know.

Interesting. I had not heard of that effect. Quite expensive though. If you Google "pine nut oil" Googles shopping links at the top of the page link to several shops that sell the extract as an appetite suppressant.

I wonder if eating pesto causes the same effects.0 -
I'm always a bit sceptical about things like this. Sure, pine nut extract may reduce cholesterol, but so do porridge oats, which cost a fraction of the price, and are at least as effective as benecol and their ilk.
It's like those goji berries which were extolled as being very high in vitamin c and antioxidants. YOu could just eat an orange or two for the same effect and save yourself £££££'s.
I think the British Heart foundation website has example diet plans if you are looking to follow a diet to help cholesterol problems; your doctor will also be able to point you in the right direction.0 -
It won't let me edit but here's the British Heart foudation healthy eating webpage:

I saw the pine nut oil at H & B, but I wasn`t sure if it was the same thing. The friend who had heard it on the radio was under the impression that it was a powder, but maybe it isn`t.
I have only ever tried pesto once, a jar, and I thought it was vile. Despite people telling me that it is normally delicious, especially when it is hm, I can`t quite pluck up the courage to try it again! - wuss or what? :-) Thanks for the idea though.
P.S the appetite suppressant thing would be a boon. The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -

I love porridge and eat it several times a week, but I do take Benecol on a regular basis too. My cholesterol level was quite reasonable (4.6) but as I am diabetic, the doc said the Government were wanting to get the reading even lower. He did offer me tablets, but I take so many already (and I have realised that most have some side effect) that I said I would try the benecol.
I will have a look at the heart foundation site, thank you.
I always wondered what those goji berries are for, pricey aren`t they? The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -
Hiya
I heard a report on LBC radio about 2-3wks ago and scurried off to Tesco to buy some pine nuts. they do 100grm for £1.60 or 1kg for about a fiver (i think).
I like the taste (a bit creamy) and they're good for snacking when out and about. Re' cholesterol I'm not sure which types of pine nuts are good for lowering your levels...which is what I need to do but they are very very yummy
Will check the BHF website for more info0
