As electricy is so expensive maybe we should return to the days when we didn't have so much dependence on it. For instance, carpet sweeper instead of vacuum cleaner. Any others?

I could go back to a non-electric beater for cakes etc...
not while there's electric available though

Just recently, I got out my old Singer hand-cranked sewing machine. Now, admittedly, this was because the new Brother one I was given a couple of years ago for my birthday couldn't handle sewing towelling and kept snapping the thread, but actually, the Singer is nicer to use. No danger of the children sewing their fingers together by accident while I'm pinning seams and much easier to control. Makes a lovely clanking noise as it goes, too.
You do have to do your own finishing / button holes / oversewing etc, though. It only does chain stitch!0
