Hi,
This has probably been covered already but cant find a definate answer. I have a 2 xCIFAS warning both by Clysdake for the same loan application, from September 2007. I cant even get a bank account now, how long do these stay on for. I have tried asking Clysdale to remove them but they are not interested and very arrogant. My credit record is fine otherwise, no missed payments.
Its the whole materuila information falsehood crap that is listed. No idea why, they say I failed to disclose and address I stayed at 5 years ago...my parents address!! I havent lived there for 9 years.
Thanks for your help in advance

hiya i was under the impression that a CIFAS WARNING on your credit file was for your benefit and to protect you ,you cannot or shouldnot be turned down for credit because it is on your file . i only know because my BF was a victim of identity theft a few years ago(before identity theft hit the headlines) and we had a CIFAS WARNING put on his credit file with a letter of explanation to explain the identity theft (he was "done" for £30k +) to protect him ,so basically if he applies for credit anywhere it should be referred and he should get a phone call then to ask for his password .this has happened a few times and once he has been contacted for the password credit goes through fine . i may be wrong and im sure someone will correct me but that is what we understand the CIFAS WARNING to be for ! paula x0

I've just been having a read on the Consumer Action Group about CIFAS and it seems it's anything from a year up to 6 years.

You need to go through the official complaints procedures.
Start here: I dispute CIFAS data recorded in my name and I want to get it amended or removedFree/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

This is not always the case.
If you were indeed the person that has given false information in order to try and obtain credit then it is there to protect future lenders from you.
In this case the op needs to check his credit record at the parents address.
When he applied for credit the parents address will have automatically come up as a linked address and there may well be detrimental information at that address in the op's name?
By not disclosing it, lenders will take the view that the applicant has tried to hide that information.
Fermi is right about the official complaints procedure but first he needs to know what is registered at his parents address?0
