FREECYCLE Q-what would you do?

Hi, hope this is the right forum, apologies if not.

My question is..I have LOADS of stone to get rid of in the garden, and I mean LOADS!!! I got rid of a trailer full on Freecycle and had another person email about it but they were very vague 'Id want some stone...cheers' Now that did put me off a bit but I did email after the first person took what they wanted. Got a reply 'still after some...cheers'. Would you offer it to them or just leave it? They seem just too vague to even turn up let alone send a 'proper' email.

I dont expect people to be offering to kiss my feet for it but surely a little more info in an email wouldnt hurt. My dilema is that Im getting pretty desperate to get rid of it. Ive posted on another local freecycle with no luck and will try my nearest one in a few days, as per their rules.

What would you do?

if your desprate to get rid of these then you might as well let him if he comes result if he doesnt then he doesnt i wouldnt be fussy just because he didnt send a email properly althou i do know how annoying it is when people do that.

If your that desperate to get rid of it, i'd offer it to them. But make sure you're not going out of your way to stay in for them - do it at a time convenient to yourself. Also make sure they know that you're not taking it round theirs, they'd have to pick it up. Then there's no harm done if they don't turn up!
  • Thanks both. I think I will email and tell him/her when I will be in and can they come then. Ill either get them knocking without confirming, or they wont turn up. I just want rid. I want a garden, not a quarry!!

If you read through some of the other Freecyclers adverts you will see many of them state in their mesages they will not donate to anyone who can not write a decent email and provide manners with it.

You maybe gifting an unwanted item but people shouldn't expect or assume that if they are first to reply they should get the item. Some message boards offer a fair user policy whereby you can choose to wait a designated period of time to receive messages and choose the most suitable person.

Manners cost nothing irregardless as to whether you are giving away something or selling it for a million quid.

  • Id offer it to them but requesting a day and time or it goes to some one else. Some people are just not very good at emailing!.

    Give it away !! :)

Thats probaly just how they write or they don't know what else to put in an email. Its very hard to fully judge a person by an email.

Just go for it, you got nothing to lose really, except some stone !!! ;)

    Hope this helps :)

Problem with freecycle is that people are afraid that if they don't get in quick it'll go! Hence the hasty texts. Which is another thing. People send stuff from mobile phones too.
The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.
  • Have you got a local salvage or reclamation yard near you. Give them a ring & they should come & take it away also give you some money for it.

Would be cheaper than trying to dump it yourself if it comes to that.
  • A correctly formatted Email does not a person make.

Neither does it mean they do not need your offering.

It may mean they dont know how to write Emails.;)
    or maybe any mails.:rolleyes2

And they probably do not wish to commit until they see anyway.

    :)
