Used to shop at tesco, then reverted back to asda after using mysupermarket and found to be much cheaper, however i want to go cheaper still is it worth getting a whole shop at lidls/aldi or are they best left for only certain good buys? I have shopped in lidls before and know the fruit and veg to be cheap but also some stuff thats same cost as asda but not as nice. Anyone that does their weekly shop at them know?
I don't want to waste fuel by driving to the diff supermarkets as they are spread apart by some distance but if its for a reasonable amount and i know what i can buy there before hand it would be usefull any info?

Hi Lindsey,
There are a number of threads on the Shop but Don't Drop board that should help so I've moved your thread across.
I've listed some threads from that board below that may help until you get more replies.

If you have the time make a list of all the stuff you normally buy then go and compare. Obiviously there will be some variation if you buy Own Brand but I think you will be pleasantly surprised how similar OB produce is. I would try Aldi first.Buy for value not cost.
Feb Grocery = £55.87 / 800 -
I am a big fan of Aldi - I don't think I have been disappointed with anything I have bought there (except maybe their oven chips!!) They have a nice selection of cooked meat, cheese, etc, and their fresh meats are of good quality. I always go there first and if there is anything that I want that they don't sell, then I go over the road to Sainsbury's. My local Aldi is now so much busier than it used to be so obviously others agree with me!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I save a fair bit every week by looking at which of teh supermarkets have the best offers on before I decide where to buy.
www.mysupermarket.com lists all of the best offers in Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's & Ocado (online shopping)
www.fixtureferrets is excellent and has ALL of the deals in Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda, Somerfield, Waitrose, Iceland and the Co-op
www.smartermum.com is also very good. It shows just the best deals from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Somerfield and Lidl0 -
I tend to bulk buy and visit different shops.
I will vist Lidal and stock up on tinned foods like beans, sweetcorn, cans of coke, bottles of coke, baby milk, cleaning products, olive oil, relishes, fetta cheese etc., I will buy other fresh stuff becuase I happen to be there. I only need to go every 4 to 6 weeks. Baby milk is the most important as it costs £4.50 in Lidal and £9 in Tesco. Same brand just a different tin.
The same with Aldi, where I go to stock up on nappies, washing tablets, breakfast bars, cereal, frozen foods, Parmesan cheese. Again I buy other fresh stuff, cause I happen to be there. The daughter loves their yoghurts. Again I go every 4 to 6 weeks.
We buy the beer from Tesco when it is on offer, on line to get the points on My Supermarket.com and use the voucher codes off MSE to get discount on the spend. It all then gets stored in the garage. I always check all the offers and bulk buy non persihable goods, when I am doing a big shop.
For my weekly meal planning shop I tend to go to Morrisons as I find this the cheapest for best quality. Especially the 50p items they are doing at the moment.
Where we can, the supermarket shops go on the cashback card, so we are always making 5% on our spending.
I also check out ebay for the Tesco voucher codes. Bought some vouchers the other day for 99p and got £48 worth of deals in one shop. Saving up for a free holiday.
Just getting back into Boots for sanitary products and shampoo etc., Queued at two different tills yesterday to make sure I got 4 vouchers.
£5 off No. 7 (x2) which I used to buy some cellulite creame today - RRP £10, on offer today £5, me with my two vouchers, totally free (2 bottles)
Plus I got two £5 skin care vouchers, which I used on a face scrub and toner. Both cost around £4.50 each. Price to me with my vouchers. Totally free.
At the other end of the scale I love Marks and Spencer. Today I bought 2 meal deals for £10 and 4 extra bottles of wine. The saving on the meal deal was £7.73 and 25% off the wine was £8.00 (£15.73 in total)
As my signature says, I love Free Money.....I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
Armed with list we went to all three and from my calculations we saved £3.76 by getting certain things in aldi so not huge savings and its out of our way. we will be buying bulk things from lidl as well as fresh fruit and veg when passing but for us asda for the main shop is still cheapest.0
