Wouldn't you get the same effect if you just dilute the cleanser?

I see what you mean, but as the pad has already absorbed water, any creams mostly sit on the surface. Also, not to get too technical, the fibres are closer together in damp squeezed cotton wool too, so not much more can be held by it.
Toners do get absorbed but not as much as on dry cotton wool.0 -
I've just made little 3" x 3" cotton cloths for my OH out of an old white t-shirt to replace his cotton wool pads. He doesn't find them more absorbant than cotton wool, given that it's still cotton, just denser. All I did was cut them out and zig zag around them.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

You can use a few muslin cloths instead of cotton wool...get a few and just wash em in the machine!0

Can I cut up the muslin I used for the kids when they were babies, or is this too rough for your face? Does it have to be special muslin like the Liz Earle products?

Don't know if this is any help - try putting the cotton wool in your airing cupboard as I'm sure I heard / read (years ago mind!) that the heat makes it fluff or swell - so goes further

I bought a load of cheap face flannels from one of the supermarkets.
I wet them in warm water and wring them out and use them instead of cotton wool.
Quick rinse and re-use for toner.
Then into the wash.
I also find that I don't get the stray fibres from the cotton wool pleats in my eyes

Virgin Vie do a cloth for cleaning your face and it is brilliant. It is quite expensive - £10 I think. But it will last you forever. It can be used on its own or with a cleanser, toner etc. Even just using it with water you get a huge amount of dirt off your face. You can stick it in the washing machine to freshen it up when you want too. I think it is a worthwhile investment. Nopt sure it's old style though...
I've used cheap shower gel and shampoo to clean dishes in an 'emergency' before. Worked fine for me. Oh, while I am mentioning shampoo, Tesco's own brand shampoo and conditioner is great. Just started using it and think it is fab. Plus, both bottles for less than a quid!0
