Barclays

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post but I'm happy for it to be moved if not.

Before, during and after my bankruptcy I was constantly phoned by Barclays.
Often the calls were automated and at all times of the day, every day, the favourites usually being in the late evening and early morning.

I told them six times that I had been made bankrupt, gave them the number, date and court but it continued. It was harassment and despite threatening a letter they continued. Finally I sent a copy of the court form stating I was bankrupt, which of course the OR should have done.

I also sent a letter accusing them of harassment. They sent me a form to complete which I ignored because I couldn't see the point. They harass, they know they harass.

This morning received another letter

Quote: It is not our intention to harass or upset our customers. Unquote.

Who is kidding who? The contrast between them and Goldfish and American Express was very marked. I received two phone calls from the former and in the second one she couldn't stop apologising and said she shouldn't have rung. I then received a polite letter concerning the bankruptcy. I never heard from American Express but my OR said they are a law unto themselves and do their own thing! lol

I am tempted to go further, next step the Ombudsman but my feelings are mixed. I owed Barclays several thousand so I feel guilty about that but I'm annoyed at the way I and others have been treated by them, particularly when I did kick up it was a case of.....what us? Never!

During that time I did try to sort the debt by asking them to reduce the interest rate but to do that I had to spend £50 per month which was the last thing I wanted to do so maybe I shouldn't feel that guilty.

So I have to make a decision and I would like your opinion please. Yes Barclay are losing money because of us but their methods IMO are way over the top and I feel I should do something or take the easy road and do nothing, putting it down to one of life's experiences.

Thanks

If no-one complains, then nothing changes.

Not suggesting that you do complain, just pointing it out! You need to do what you feel is right.

Oh - and bankruptcy is not about guilt.

Barclays were exactly the same with me...I only wish at the time I'd had the strength to fight back at them.....I agree with skylight you should in NO WAY feel guilty for them or going bankrupt anyhow if its like they were with me the debt I owed them was promptly sold on anyhow to the highest bidder! they called once & never pestered me again.....

Yes that happened to me....I forgot that bit and it was they who said to send a photocopy of the form. Barclay never mentioned it.

No I don't feel guilty about going bankrupt, best thing I ever did BUT there's a difference between going bankrupt and complaining to the powers that be of methods used by a company who at the end of the day just want their money back.

I just feel....I think....a bit cheeky but then on the otherhand they are harassing and claim they are not. If they had said yep we did, sorry about that, I wouldn't take it further, but to claim innocence when it's obviously company policy is not on.

Barclays were the same with me - awkward!

About a week after going BR I recieved a letter from them saying they'd been notified and that due to this they were closing my accounts I had with them, righting what was owed to 'bad debt' - quite obvious

Then recieved about a month later a letter demanding I get in contact with them as I hadnt sent them a token payment - for the account which was closed!!!

For once I actually called them up and said that I was declared BR on 9 May, that I'd been sent a letter from one office of Barclays closing my account, yet I then get a letter from 'you' stating I should have paid something - I did tell them they they're clearly not talking to one another (their offices) - that seemed to shut her up! :D

Barclays tone has changed there's no doubt since I complained about harassment but if no one complains then we are saying that it's OK and it's not ..........so...............here we go again!
