KPR debt collection agency (Nationwide)

My nationwide credit card account has now been passed to a company called KPR debt collection agency.
They said a default will be automatically registered unless I clear the full balaance owing.
However, then I proposed to clear the arrears today of £565. They agreed to stop the default if I cleared the arrears.
I today received my wages but I did not receive as much as I thought I would.
Therefore I cnanot afford to clear the arrears, and certainly cannot afford to have a default on my credit record, because I work in financial services for a bank.
Now, I called them up today and proposed that I paid 50% today or even 75% today to stop the default.
They said the only way it would be stopped is is I clear the arrears in full today!
Is there anything I can now do to stop this default??

Hi
First of all are there any charges you can claim back on this card?

Yes there are charges I can claim back on this card. But my immediate priority is to ensure that a default notice does not go on to my credit report. I don't want the hassle of trying to remove it, and once it goes on, it will mean that no employer in the industry I work in will take me on.
I am currently in the processing of moving employers and therefore it's crucial I sort this out ASAP!0
