Liquid Hand Soap - half price

Options
Liquid soap is far more concentrated than necessary. When you finish a bottle, don't throw it away; buy a new one and pour half into the old bottle, carefully top up both with water (to avoid bubble hysteria) then roll them around gently to even out the mix.

True, it's slightly less gloopy, but it will cut your soap bill in half with virtually no effort, and let's face it, it goes almost straight down the drain anyway.

We have three bottles on the go at any one time (one in both toilets and one in the kitchen). Our four young kids seem to be constantly washing their hands, and before each wash, they pump the dispenser once, regardless of how thick/thin the soap is.

Now, on the other hand, it lasts twice as long, and the kids don't even notice the difference.

I find that Sainsbury's Vanilla Bath foam seems to be very similar to their handwash but is half the price.

I refill the handwash with the bath foam and it works very well. The one time I diluted it slightly DD noticed and asked what happened as it was not as concentrated!

We use the Boots Essentials Handwash - it's really nice and only 69p( or thereabouts). It also looks more expensive than it is! :p

LOL - I've just bought some of that to try it out. It smells just as nice as the more expensive ones.

I always refill my soap bottles with fairy liquid,I always wait until it is on a buy one get one free offer,it seems to last longer than the original soap, and you can buy it in a colour to match your soap bottles lid, then no one knows you have refilled it :j

I also do this with shower gel bottles,I refil them with bubble bath and I match the colour to the bottle and lid,I dont think anyone has noticed,I got fedup buying shower gel,my teenage sons seem to use about 1/2 bottle every time they have a shower.

Fatty Deposit, what's your secret???? My children lie through their teeth when you ask them if they have washed their hands, they would do anything rather than actually use soap
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • I used to buy Dove liquid soap, now I buy Dove bath cream, twice as much for the same price and just as nice.

Frosty - you use Fairy Liquid to wash your hands. Shock, horror!! I never even put my hands in the stuff to wash up unless I am wearing rubber gloves. I even find some of the liquid soap brands such as Carex or Radox to be too drying to my skin. I am obviously a much more sensitive type than your family.
  • A lot of handwashes have sodium lauryl sulfate, Parabens and other petrochemical ingredients in them - I have really sensitive skin too (and wash my hands a lot) and found that my hands got really, dry, cracked and nasty looking. :( I switched to a simple olive oil soap (not liquid) its £2 for a bar but lasts for ages and also switched to Faith in Nature Aloe Vera handwash (liquid soap) which is expensive compared to other brands mentioned above but you only need a small quantity. I have also bought a big dispenser of Jason handwash liquid soap (£6), but haven't tried it yet. My hands have been fine since using these products although I still wash them just as often....
