Which banks are more BR friendly

Could someone please give me some advice as to what banks are BR friendly,
I was discharged back in 2006 and I haven't been able to obtain an account, except a saving account, and what are the best ways for me to start inproving my credit rating.

Any help please.

Have to say thats a strange one. Just a thought you don/t have a bru/bro i place do you?.

Ok there is the co-op or barclays which accept undischarged bc.So classed as bc friendly. They are basic accounts but the co-op has a visa electron card with it.

Almost all banks do a basc accounts for example nat west is called a step account and my oh has a abbey account. You can only keep trying.

There is some kind of sticky at the top of this page which tells you how to go about improving your credit rating/file. Sounds like you need to get a look at you file to make sure all is correct.D

'm guessing like Dalip that there is a problem with credit reference files not being updated properly. Here's a link to the sticky

Edit: meant to say the best way to improve your credit score is time unfortunatly. The further away your bankruptcy the better. Maybe try to get a catalogue and pay it off every month as a start. But do make sure your files are cleaned up.

Just to echo what deedee & dalip said.....you really do need to check your credit files just to make sure things are how they should be...when you say your applying for accounts? is this standard bank accounts? because until the bankruptcy drops off your credit files you'll only be able to get basic bank accounts as most are credit checked so with the BR showing on your files you'll probably fail the check...I take it your on the electoral register as well? sometimes people have had difficulty opening basic accounts only to fail the ID checks
One thing to remember as well if you've been trying to open accounts all over the place its all left on your credit files as history so again it wont look good...once you clean up your files its all a matter of time i'm afraid to rebuild your credit history...no quick fix i'm afraid

Saying all of that, the Coop or Barclays should be able to open an account for you no matter what your credit rating -unless of course you've been done for fraud.

or you have a cifas marker on your credit files due to fraud or ID theft etc etc .....although no confirmation from the co-op as yet but they seem to be refusing accounts to people who owed debts to them

Im sorry but im new to this forum and not up to speed on the abbreviations yet, im a discharged BC in 2006, with no BRU/BRO, but i have tried with barclays after my BC period started and they refused me even thou i previously had a jiont account with them, I've tried a few inthe early days that was a couple of years ok, I've look in to the website moneymadeclear regarding basic bank accounts and i think i'll stay as i am for the time being until my BC drop's of my credit file.

Concerning the information regarding the sticky i'll shall look in to it.

    Many thanks

just out of curiosity did you owe barclays anything? its rare but the odd occasion if you've had a debt with them they turn you down....they were my biggest creditors & they offered a basic acc to me...to be honest if they refused a basic account i'd be tempted to appeal...otherwise have a look at the co-op cashminder account might be worth a shot?

It wasn't a basic account i asked for back then, it was a current account with no frills and i did apply with a few banks in a short period of time, os with the information that i have gain from the forum i can see why i wasn't accepted.

Regarding the your enquiry it wasn't barclays that i owed money too, but Natwest was one of the biggest credits apart from the taxman and vatman, so maybe this has something to do with it?????

I've taken a look at the link you listed, as i'm a SE (self employed) this wouldn't allow me to operate efficiently, the OH has been very supportive she allows me the use of her current account and my clients have been very supportive aswell.
