Advice on black knee high boots that have broken

Any advice is welcome as I dont know what I should do. I bought some black boots last October from Jones the Bootmakers, and today the heel has come away from the base of the shoe. They are flat'ish heels, not stilettos, and I am not sure if they are repairable. They cost £110.00. My question is - do I take them back to the shop and complain (I have my receipt) or do I take them to a shoe repairers and see if they can be fixed? I assume that there is no such thing as a guarantee on footwear? Thank you!

I've worked in footwear retail for about 4 years and I'd always advise you to try the shop first. They can only say no. Chances are they might offer to foot the bill out of goodwill but it may depend on how much wear they have had and if they've had any other customers complaining about this particular style. General wear and tear is expected on boots and is not a fault. Heel tips are designed to be replaceable wheres in most cases the whole heel isnt. Obviously without seeing the shoe I can't really see what the problem is, it sounds like it can be glued back on which any cobbler will do for a reasonable fee.
Hope this helps. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Thank you. I will take the boots in to the shop and see what they say. I didnt really know where to start, but i like the boots and hopefully they can be repaired, as August is not a great time to be buying new winter boots!
Thanks again, much appreciated.0 -
My DD had the exact problem with boots purchased from Moda in Pele. She returned with them after 3 months and they sent away for another pair. She kept the left foot, which was perfect, and now has three boots. I would always try to return to the shop, customer service differs everywhere. My daughter now tells everyone how good Moda's after sale service is.0

Just about everything you purchase is guaranteed under the Sales Of Goods Act in that the item should be fit for purpose and should last a reasonable amount of time under normal use. Whats classed as reasonable and normal use though are open to interpretation.
If you've worn these boots every single day since purchase then I would say you've had reasonable use, if however they've been worn once or twice per week and then broken I would think you have just cause to complain to Jones.
Jones are a reputable maker who have a good reputation to uphold. Your first call should be to them mentioning the Sales of Goods Act if things start to get awkward.0
