Hi, hope this helps someone in Scotland like me who likes to travel a lot in Europe for pleasure, but doesn't like paying extortionate prices to get there.

Ryanair fly from Prestwick (Glasgow) to destinations all over Europe, albeit not directly to the centre of the destination city, however I don't mind a 45 minute bus ride if I don't have to pay crazy prices.

I wasn't able to take a proper holiday this year due to moving into a new place and becoming totally skint, but I have just managed booked 5 days in Italy flying from glasgow PWK airport. I booked the flights 1 month in advance, return, for £48.

Ryanair tips

Book as far in advance possible to get the cheapest fare.

If you can manage with just hand luggage, do so. Ryanair charge about £9 a bag to put in the hold, and if it's over 15kg they charge something ridiculous extra per kg you are over.

Pay by debit card if you can. Ryanair charge about £4 paying by another method.

IMPORTANT - Check in online! If you don't you will have to pay for the priveledge of actually getting the ticket you paid for, which from experience cost £8.

The above can save you about £25 or more depending on how early you book and your destination!

Scotrail tips

Scotrail offer 50% off travel to Glasgow Prestwick airport from any station in Scotland. I travel to the airport from Aberdeen. An advance return costs just short of £40. Presenting your flight documents at the station desk will entitle you to 50% off. This offer is not available online.

Keep an eye out for Scotrail offers. They recently had cheap deals on advanced bookings for this summer/autumn. I am travelling in October and a return ticket to Glasgow from Aberdeen cost £20. Minus the 50% it was only £10 return - bargain!

:D

Just be careful with booking early morning or late evening flights as the bus and train service can finish before the last flights arrive.
