sugar/sweetner free cakes for toddlers

My dd is getting into finger foods and i would like to be able to ring the changes as much as possible- especially when out for the day

i dont want to give her rusks (even sugar free ones) and the organix etc biscuits are very expensive.

does anyone know where i might find recipes for sugar free cakes and biscuits or similiar snacky type foods

i did a search on the site but the recipes all came up with things like splenda - which i def dont want my daughter to have

thanks in advance

I found this book really good also things like muffins made sweet by fruit like bananas, raisins etc. Flapjacks are good without sugar - use honey, its just finding things you are comfortable with.

fruit sugars and other natural sugars like honey aren't better for you than normal sugar ;)

Just what I was about to say ;) Miss Kitty, if you let us know why it is that you don't want your toddler to have sugar (health issues, teeth, weight  ) we may be able to help better :D

What about feeding your toddler fresh fruit as snacks?

A word of warning - don't use honey for babies under a year old
It can have blacteria in it that can make them ill; if you look on the pot of a commercial batch you'll see the warning from the manufacturer.

I had this one when DD was younger. Highly recommended! There's a recipe in there that is basically mixed dried fruit blitzed up and then dried out using the oven. DD loved these....

Dried fruit is exceptionally high in sugar though ;)

Just because it's fruit sugar doesn't make it 'good'

There are lots of finger foods that dont have lots of sugar, sweetners etc

Chop up some fruit ie bananas, mango, pear, peach or melon
    lightly toasted bread or bagels
    some cooked pasta
chopped up hard boiled egg(after 12 months)
raisins or chopped up dried apricots
small pieces of cooked veg ie carrots, potato or sweet potato
    well cooked broccoli or cauliflower
    rice cakes
    crackers

    List is endless really:D

I hated giving my kids rusks etc

as a mum of a diabetic child i am used to giving foods that dont have sugar etc, a child doesnt need to given cakes etc anyway at a young age, nutritioinal food is the best for them anyway

    Hope that helps
