Breadmaker / Rust Help Required!!!

I luckily obtained an Electrolux BR-3000 breadmaker from Freecycle, and have cleaned it up, and have a couple of problems that I'm hoping someone out there can help me with:

1. At the bottom of the breadmaker and around the screws there is a bit of rust - how can I remove this (have tried bicarb), and if I can't get rid of it, does it make the breadmaker unusable?

2. It didn't come with an instruction manual, so any tips to get me started, ie ingredients, settings etc.
