Filling in the bankruptcy forms and what happens next?

Well i`ve almost certainly decided on bankruptcy after weighing up all the pros and cons.
I would appreciate some advice on what to do next. I do not have a printer(i always find completing forms online so much easier) so do i have to collect them from court and fill them in or is there a way of completing them online and then sending them on? I`m a little confused after lookin at the insolvency website. Sorry to sound silly. Also what happens once i have filled in the forms? Do i then turn up at court (if it is a walk in court which i`m sure it is) and take it from there or do i have to wait for an appointment?
I will continue to search for these answers myself but any advice from someone who`s been there and done it would be great.

You need to provide paper copies of the forms to the court yourself.

If you do them online, if I remember correctly what other people have said, then it will let you save a PDF document of them that have to print yourself.

If (as you say) you can't print the forms, then you should be able get paper copies of the forms from the court. I picked mine up from the court, although I think a few people have said that some courts will post them out to you. So give your court a ring to find out how to get them.

While you are doing that, you can also ask them what their arrangements are for turning up on the day. Each court seems to like to do things a bit differently, so you will have to check with them.

thanks fermi. also with regards to bank account do you open one after BR or is it wise to do it beforehand obviously informing them that you`re about to be bankrupt (i hear co-op are the best at offering accounts for bankrupts)
  • Hi

I am only a few steps ahead of you, but may be able to help.

I phoned the court for my forms, they sent them (2nd class the tightwads), and included within them was a list of days and times they were, and weren't available for me to go down there. I would imagine each court does things slightly differently but must all follow the same guidelines. I have read on here that completing them online is probably the better option as the help is clearer along the way and it makes it easier for the Judge to read, but if you have no printer it is a non-starter.

I was advised to open a new account before I went BR, to make sure my wages had somewhere to go and my bills could keep coming out, but I've since heard that it should maybe be done afterward. I am yet to have any problems with my account but I only recently went BR and it is early days yet. You could play safe and do it afterward.

    Hi Again

You can open a co-op before bc but make sure they are not one of your creditors,as they have tightened their rules. You can phone co-op on 08457 212 212 they sometimes tell you there and then if you have been accepted and it then takes about 7 days for the paperwork to come through.Co-op do a electron card which i think is the reason it is so popular. If you want to do their online banking you have to regsiter for by calling them after your account details come through,to activate it. Barclays also do a basic account for bc.

I did all my SOA by hand so know the feeling. What might be useful is to do the ones online, save and change ect until you are happy with it all, then copy the details on to the paper ones you have.

If i have this right you are not working at the moment so when you go to court you need proof that you are unemployed(i think they ask for 3 mths bank statements,and/or your the most recent letter from the job centre with your JSA entitlement)then you will entitled to a discount of £150 off the £495 fee making it £345.

Another thing is to stop paying ALL creditors as of now to save for those fees.

Thats another thing- i do all my banking online so i don`t have copies of my statements, i could ring the bank and ask them to send them out i suppose.
You said stop paying the creditors now and save my money - well i haven`t paid them for a while now and have been avoiding the constant phone calls and letters! I wonder if i answer the phone and explain that i am currently making myself bankrupt would they leave me alone?
Only one way to find out i suppose!

wouldnt worry about bank statements too much....what you cant get hold of the official receiver can easily source, I banked with barclays online & didnt have a great deal of statements & it wasnt a prob

As far as telling creditors you "could" mention your going BR but it'll probably make things worse...what I found was if a creditor rang I said i'm seeking advice regards my financial state & I will contact you in due course

Thats a good idea. I know i`m doing myself no favours by ignoring them but they always ask the same stupid questions! And you can guarantee that after i`ve spoken to them they phone again within 24 hrs anyway! So what`s the point!
Anyway, rant over! Think i will do that from now on, might cut the phone calls down a bit!
