Am I being stitched up?

Also, bear in mind that, just because you've found a better rate on-line, that doesn't necessarily mean you'd qualify, or there aren't other hidden nasties in their small-print or whatever.0

Ask them for a copy of the document you signed saying you agree to pay £999 (of course, there isn't one).
You could wait for them to take you to the small claims court (which i doubt very much they will, because the court will rule in your favour because you haven't signed any agreement!). At worst, you'd have to pay the £999 + court fee's (around £80 or £100 i believe - check the https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk website).
My first impression is that they are trying to swindle you out of £999.0 -
read the terms and conditions of the mortgage that was given to u when u applied for the mortgage. see what it says about what happens if u dont draw the mortgage funds or have not signed the documentation.
also if u bought over the phone, did they give u a cooling off period after assessing ur needs and recommending a mortgage??? or did u choose the option where u say u dont need their advice but just want to choose the mortgage urself? if they gave the advice and u bought it over the phone, i am not sure if the distance selling regulation applies for mortgages as well and the cooling off period might apply. not sure about this but others more knowledgabe in these matters will clarify i guess.
like already recommended by others ask RBS in writing why they are insisting on the fees if u have not signed any documentation yet. also ask ur advisor in writing why he is asking for the fees if documentation has not been signed yet. ask for replies in writing and not to call u regarding this issue. tell u will take up the matter with relevant authorities and regulatory bodies. that might get them off ur back
one doubt though. how did the survey/valuation get done if u didnt sign any paperwork????bubblesmoney :hello:0
