in Scotland

i was thinking of getting this for a friend of mine whose origins are scottish from one of the grandparents side if i understood correctly. i thought it would be original as he loves scotland and is proud of his origins.
1. where is the cheapest place to get this...and online preferably seeing as we are based in middlesex/surrey near london
2. i am told that originally each clan had their tartan colour and symbol. his clan could come under the name ford or byrne and how do i find out about the corresponding tartan colour/pattern for this.
thanks in advance!

  • Google 'trartan' that will take you to heaps of web sites with tartans on them or they will be able to tell you the correct tartan.
There are may different types of kilts you can get, i think the cheapest are the super lightweight ones, proper heavy kilts i think are about £250 -£300, i could be wrong but shop around i dont doubt you will find one at a good price some where.
Try ebay too, you might find what you are looking for there.
    happy kilt hunting
    That mrs macchicken to you!
  • Hi there a good friend of mine is a professional kilt maker not sure how much she charges, I know customers are normally measured up for a kilt. She is highly reputable and also makes them for Kilt stores in Edinburgh. If you need any further advice after your search on the net I am happy to ask her on your behalf. She would be able to say whether you are being charged a decent price etc.
