Must stop frittering money away!

Went to local spa this morning with intention of buying 1 thing some 1001 for carpet.

Found it bargain at £1.35
then got lured by ok mag with britney on front and got paper for hubby(ok gone up to £2.95 I always remember it being 2quid last year!)
Hubby rang said get some pop and chocs so 2 cans and 2 choc bars

Total bill came to £7.18!
Was completly shocked! Must start keeping spending diary as I know I fritter a lot of money away in 4 local corner shops near me!

The one next to daugters nursury does particualrly well as I go in there twice a day sometimes so does hubby, infact we such good customers got xmas card and bottle of wine last year!

Anyone else fritter money away like I do?

I have new 25quid budget for mics a week but finding it tough.

:rotfl: you're going to have to go out with only £2 in your pocket so you CAN'T spend more :rotfl: Seriously you have a habit that HAS to go. Good luck ;)

I find if I do that OH gets the "munchies" and we eat it all in a few days and then have to buy more anyway :o

I'm guilty - never can keep to a shopping list, there's always an extra oooh I'll get that too.

if it's any help, you can read magazines in the library - my local even has mags like Vogue and ID. Given that i live about three hours away from London that isn't bad :rotfl:

My magazine habit is pricey but I have cut back, am prepared to spend 3-5 of 25allowance on mags but no more! and im leaving card at home and spending cash.

Just amazes me how it added up to so much!

As for chocolate in bulk neither me of hubby have self disipline not to eat it all in one go!

    Am off to libary friday!

I have found a cheaper way to buy magazines, so you don't fritter so much away. Go to the bbc magazine subs site, or another subscription site and you can find many magazines at 3 for £1, or 3 issues for £3, delivered to your door. You have to set up a DD, but then you just cancel it after you receive the 2nd issue by just emailing the company and cancelling the DD.

I've just spent £6 on the bbc site on magazines for me and the kids and we will get 6 magazines a month for 3 months - it's great- saves a fortune. I will then cancel and will sign up again a month or so later when the offers are next on.

I have used my tesco points before to get a yearly subscription for my mum before with mags - I had forgotten about that.
I used to buy mags for the traing journey into work but I realised that the £1 odd I was spending wasnt even doing a days travel. I would rather spend the £1 on a book from the charity shop and that do my reading all week. When I have a few books in the house I either swap them, give them to friends and family or take them back to the charity shop.

That's a brilliant idea - I will have to try that. I am terrible with magazines, I even spend £10 a month on a subscription for my 4 yr old who can't read yet!! (yes, I am scurrying off to cancel it as we speak so stop shouting!!)

I have neither the desire nor the willpower to not gorge on stock piled chocolate so will have to try taking cash to the shops and sticking to a budget - it will remind me of when OH and I first set up home and had £8k a year to live on (and it was not that long ago before you say anything!!):rotfl:
