Do you have to return free gift?

I've done a quick searchy, can't find the answer, hoping someone can help.

Buy a gizmo, get a gadget free.
I buy gizmo, get gadget, then I decide I dont want the gizmo.... Could I return it and keep the gadget
Lets say the company in question has a returns policy of, "if you dont like it, we'll take it back" but are offering a large free gift with a purchase over a required spend, if I make that purchase, then return it, can I keep the free gift?

I hope I have said that as clear as it is in my head! lol

No, it's not, because if the answer is "You can keep the free gift" it will be a grabbit!

AFAIK , you can't keep the gift otherwise we'd all be buying BOGOFs and taking one back and asking for all the money back.
