Great News. Alison.com have announced that they have now introduced a new certificate to replace the ECDl / ICDL, so that users can gain free qualifications as well as free training. They've called it the Alison ABC IT certificate, and have aimed to better the ECDL course by being more comprehensive.

Yes, but ABC is only recognised by the company who provides the course - you might as well make your own (free) certificate. ECDL is recognised internationally.0

I'll take a look, always something to put on the cv.

I understand your scepticism. This is a new certificate. Hopefully Alison will succeed in making this internationally recognized too.
For any readers who have not heard of Alison before, it is an organisation that aims to provide and promote free education for all, and has been up and running for over a year now. They have up to this point been providing free ECDL training, but the glitch was that you had still had to find a centre and pay to get your certificate.
I hope they they succeed in their aims. I have started training with them. It would be interesting to hear from experienced techies / educationalists.

Thanks Brody - the c.v. aspect is a good point, as you can always print off and add progress reports, even if you haven't finished the course. I'm sure most employers would be impressed with that.

To give you some confidence, Westminster Primary Care Trust have chosen Alison to take over from the ECDL, (June newsletter), because of the value for money and high quality.ScratchandSniff-->[X] wrote: »Yes, but ABC is only recognised by the company who provides the course - you might as well make your own (free) certificate. Thanks OP - will give it a go!
More quals the better i say!0 -
I am currently doing the ECDL, and am doing it for the reason that my company are paying for it. However, does anyone agree that this is the easiest course out there? If I was an employer and saw that someone had this qualification I would not be impressed one bit. The main reason I say this is because some colleagues have completed it in the recent past, and these people are still asking me how to add an attachment to an email and save a word document, and they have been getting over 90% in their modules!
I hope I have not offended anyone who may be finding this difficult, but this is the experience I have had of it.0 -
Sounds good - just registered!

Not worth the paper its written on and may actually be detrimental to your CV.0
