Le Creuset cookware

Hopefully this comes under the moneysaving umbrella, thought some might want to know that Tesco have half price Le Creuset cookware in store. My lovely Mum picked up a griddle pan and casserole dish for me today.

I have lusted after these for many years but could bever quite justify spending £80 on a casserole dish, now I have one for £36! They have quite a few colours but its selling fast :D

I gave mine away a few years ago:eek: , the empty pans are heavy enough, but full they used to hurt my wrists. They do look fab though i have to say ;) .

The price of Le Creuset is madly high, however we bought some as a treat about 12 (?) years ago....when the building socs all turned into banks and gave customers shares.

Our shares got us a new bathroom and some Le Creuset pans. I have to say though that other pans have come and gone but the Le Creuset ones are still going strong and showing no signs of packing in. Maybe its actually more economical in the long run if you find yourself with a little wind-fall :-)

oooo I'll have a look. I'd like to replace all my pans with le creuset (over time!!!). I have a couple of casserole dishes and just love them. I use the big one as my soup pot and its warm red colour cheers me up in winter when it's simmering away with soup.
    Thanks for this

I own 3 Le creuset pans, I 'gained' them in my parents divorce and estimate them to be about 20 years old! Pans are still going strong, even though my parents marriage didn't.

Have never seen the pans, but often see lovely casserole type Le Crueset dishes in TK Maxx very reasonably. Often about 1/3 rrp:D I have one of the casserole dishes that was a wedding present and i love it.

    I've never been a fan ...

Good points: Whilst they aren't formally non-stick, they don't stick, if you see what I mean. They are very durable. They cook very evenly.

Bad points: They are very expensive. They are bl**dy heavy. They take a long time to heat up but don't like being heated up with nothing in them. They can crack if you move them too quickly from heat to cold water. The wooden handles can char if you cook on too high a heat or leave them over a hot ring. The wooden handles also don't like being soaked in hot, soapy water.

Give me stainless steel with nice thick bottoms (distributes the heat, so less stirring required) any day.

I'm always attracted to them in shops. Go to look, lift one up and remember why I have never bothered.
My arthritis is becoming worse so I think they are a definite no for me :(
