mortgage+retention

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone could help me.
6 months ago,i bought a property,& a £5000 retention was put on it.
I have now completed the works needed & had them passed off to free up this amount & received a cheque in the post today.
Now,my lender has held this amount, all this time, but if it had been in my bank account,no doubt i could have earned fair interest on it.After all,it is my money....isnt it?
Has anyone approached their lender regarding this,& if so,did they get any joy?
Regards,Dave.

It's not 'your money' as you won't have been paying interest on it whilst it was on retention.0
