I've just a nose on the Money saving the old fashioned way and i saw some conversations long ago about trying to grow veg in a flat - did anyone actually try it? i am growing chillies and herbs at the moment quite sucessfully but would love to try something else a bit more useful - my flat is on a corner and is very sunny (when its not raining like today!)

I've grown small peppers inside (practically the same as growing chillis), some fairly successful 'cut and come again' salad, and you could do cherry tomatoes quite easily as well.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

It's salad leaves that you can snip off and use, and they re-grow (rather than just picking a lettuce and that's it).
Have a look at - http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0602/cut_vegetables.asp
I grew these ones - http://www.suttons.co.uk/pd_184429_Spicy_Mix.htm - in a container on the windowsill last year.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
You can also grow cucumbers indoors..and be prepared for comments!
In window containers, strawberries are also nice dependant on the amount of room you have.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0
