Is it acceptable to ask a potential employee their age?

You can ask candidates if they are over/under the age of 22 years, due to an exemption relating to pay under the National Minimum Wage Act.
So legally, a 21 year old has the same right to be considered for a job as a 22 year old, and the right to be discriminated on because of her age...YET....an employer can pay a 21 year old a lot less than a 22 year old, solely on the basis of there age.

Equality applies to everybody except those who make these laws - they just exempt themselves! So much for setting an example. The Governemnt just acts in the manner that business wish they could.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
Could someone tell me how do they generate NI numbers? Me and my ex's NI numbers were very similar, shared the first 2 letters and the first four numbers. We were born 18 months apart and 170 miles apart!"The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury
