Yes you do need contents insurance if you can afford it..
Also make sure you sign up for Freecycle. It's a bit like Ebay but the goods you bid on are free for pick up if you are chosen. https://www.freecycle.org . Click on browse groups and join all in your local vicinity.Namaste DeeDee x0 -

You mention that you live in a 3 bed towns house - that leads me to believe that the house is relatively new and as such would be on a water meter and not water rates.0
