If it's their item then they can do as they please with it without your consent. As is often said, nothing to hide - nothing to fear!
Chances are it's a company policy and so refusing to cooperate could affect your ability to do your job if the item is a required "tool" for you. For them it's likely just asset tracking - many companies don't have the time or resources to put into tracking their employees' every move.0 -
I'm confused because you've got two posts, one mentioning a van and the other a mobile.
If it's your mobile, one reason for doing this might be for your security: we visit clients in their homes and there are sometimes risks with this. We have a policy for ensuring we know where people have gone, but being able to track a mobile could be useful, eg if they go home without signing off!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Which is their right to do so, if they want to. You are being paid to work, after all.0 -

We had them on our company cars/vans.
They were only used to either, find out the closest engineer to a job, or alert the police if they were stolen. (also I think one engineer managed to get off a speeding fine, when the GPS tracker proved he wasn't speeding in the area when the ticket was issued!)
You only have to fear them if you're doing something wrong. If you're doing your job properly then you've nothing to worry about.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

Then your working life will be hell anyway, so what's one more thing? They cannot use it against you, if you're doing your job properly; and if they try anything, then you'd have evidence to go to ACAS.
Also far be it from me to suggest you put a pin through the aerial cable, disabling the device and just claim bad manufacture/fitting????A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
I'd guess that there are enough little control freaks out there that if every company had detailed records on how long you spent in the toilet then they'd be studying the data.
The point being that even honest people might occasionally do an errand as part of their work. Nothing to hide IMO, but as soon as a contol freak is given lots of data then they can over excite themselves.
Probably be alright, but that's a risk.Happy chappy0 -

Won't work with a mobile phone tracker as that doesn't use a GPS signal.0
