What's a guarantee worth?

I've had some driveway paving done and although the initial quote included a guarantee of 10 years on labour and 5 years on material I am yet to receive anything in writing to that effect other than what was written on the initial paperwork.
I'm due to pay the balance of the money and was going to ask for something in writing at the same time. What exactly do I need to get that can't be ignored later if I have a problem and if there is no guarantee in the end can I claim a reduction (and how great a reduction) in the final price to reflect this.

Get a signed guarantee on a letterheaded piece of paper (if they have one) from someone who's in a management position within the company. If they can't provide you with it I'd ask for at least 30% off the price, that should get them interested.
