Re: Herbie's comment. It was on the vulnerability grounds that I got the debt sent back but appreciate that there's no guarantee. Re the extra charges yes it would be a bummer to have those added but your friend will have to weigh up the stress caused by letting the bailiff remove the goods (as is their legal right) or grin and bear paying more back to the council. If thye agree to do this then at least your friend won't be worrying about knocks on the door.

Word of caution: If council agree to take debt back on grounds of vulnerability then your friend will have to maintain payments.

Sadly, the problem arises because payments are not maintained and unlike the creditor being a credit card co or bank etc, you do not find the constant reminder letters or telephone calls. Therefore the council tax payer thinks that the councils do not mind a late or missed payment. How WRONG they are.
  • i was late making a payment to the bailifs to be told that i was too late and they would be taking possession of the goods i paid what was out standing anyway will they still come to take the goods? even tho i paid the agreed amout?

    Can you look at www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk

    This is herbie21's site.

Then pm her with the name of the bailiff and the company he works for.

  • For the latest news on council tax go to nocounciltax dot com and scroll down to or search for 'Jim'.

This is not a wind-up. I know 'Jim' personally. The only reason I cannot say that I've seen the original paper letter from Wirral Council is that I live on the South Coast and I haven't seen 'Jim' in person since he got it.
