Cheap Asda Tents

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, please merge if it has been, i did do a search but nothing came up.
I noticed all the tents (as well as other outdoor things, toys etc) had been reduced by 50% or more in Asda.
I bought a 5 man tent for £24.99
A 3 man tent complete with 2 sleeping bags, 2 fold up adult sized camp chairs and a lamp for £21.99
Two children's fold up camping chairs for £2.49 each
I also cheekily pointed out that the big signs in the shop said all camping gear half price but that the air bed's weren't reduced and managed to get 2 for £9.00 (They're £8.97 each for single size)
After getting home I had a look about online for cheap but decent sleeping bags as I needed 2 more and found it was cheaper for me to buy the 3 man tent set again! So off i went and bought another, lol
There was also other shapes and sizes of tent, a 4 man dome for a tenner, other 3 man one for £14.99, single berth ones... Worth phoning ahead to check stock and reserve one. They're not for the serious camper but if you're like me and just go on a whim with the kids when the sun is shining (WHEN its shining? lol) they're great.

"you get what you pay for" as other posters have found out already.
if you want a good tent, buy from a proper camping retailer :T
buy elsewhere at your own risk:mad:0 -

I totally agree with that. We have just bought a Vango tempest 200 for my son for cadets and it is a brilliant tent.
My nephew is looking for a cheap tent for 4 days camping, that is why I was wondering whether these would be suitable as they don't want to spend a lot.0 -
Well like i said, they aren't for the serious camper. You get what you pay for and i will probably use these for a few sunny weekends away then let the kids have them to play with in the garden. With 5 kids I can't afford more than a weekend away anyway but the peace i'll get when they're playing in the garden will be priceless!0

Don't know whether woolworths still have Gelert tents ie Tornado 5 still available for £25-£35 but they're a much better bet! - might be a bit big for 1-2 people but definitely a bargain!0

A few weekends away per year IS serious camping. It would be nice to be able to order the sunny weather when we want it, of course, but take it from another serious camper this just ain't going to happen. And spending one night freezing in a cheap sleeping bag in a leaking tent is one way to guarantee that you'll only ever go camping once in your "bargain"...you'll either never go again or you'll bin the lot and buy some decent kit that doesn't actually cost that much more.
Nope, if you Google around at the moment you'll find that the big online camping retailers are already reducing their tents and kit drastically, at the end of a poor summer. There are some amazing deals out there for good quality kit that will keep a family dry and warm for several seasons. Think of it in terms of cost per use, not initial cost.Val.0 -
we bought a 6 man tent from asda which was rduced about 2 years ago, and its fantastic... can bungie it to the bike and away to go, and double skin so totally water proof..went to bulldog bash 2 weeks ago.. totally hammered down... but was all nice and dry in our tent...
i can see where peeps are coming from to gto to a proper camping retailer, but most of the time you can find the same products sooooo much cheaper else where....
but fair comment on the ones they are selling at mo... best to allways check... i need new sleeping bags..so will check out the deal with the sleeping bags.... thanks....Work to live= not live to work0
