Stupid Question!!!

Hi

I have a really silly question to ask and i think i know the answer but i wanted to just check first. I did a quick search and couldn't find it anywhere.

Can you freeze dried powdered milk??

(would normally ask my mum but shes on holiday plus she still brings up the "do you need to peel gooseberries?" incident) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Can you all help?? It's goes out of date today and i can't use all of it up.

Snoops xx

  • If it's still dried and hasn't been made up, I'm sure that yes you could freeze it, but I'm quite sure it'll still be fit to use for a few weeks after it's use by date.

As it's a dried product, I wouldn't take any notice of the date - dried/tinned goods tend to last a good bit longer than their BB dates would have you believe :)
  • Thanks that what i thought, I'm trying to not take as much notice of the BB dates on tinned and dried goods (makes me cringe the amount of food we used to waste by binning it the day after the date on the tin).

  • Can you freeze dried powdered milk??

TBH, I wouldn't ;) When they thaw, dried foods are prone to condensation, so the defrosted product may then be susceptible to mould.

I'll add this to the Freezing Quick Questions thread later :D

Can you make it up then freeze it? You can freeze normal milk so I would have thought it'd be ok.

oooohhhhhh thats a good idea would love to see my OH's face if i did that!!!!

Well if it's good enough for Cleo it's good enough for us!!!

I don't think i will freeze it i will just carry on using it and doing the sniff test first, or i might make up a few trial pints and see if that works.

    Thanks for the replys

I keep mine in a plastic tub, so who knows when it goes out of date?:D I'm sure it'll be fine left in an airtight container.

I am currently using a tub that went out of date in November 2007 and we aren't dead yet :rotfl: I am using it in my breadmaker.
